About Us

Andrea

Andrea Joan Hanson was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to parents Jay and Susan Hanson.  She moved around a bit as a child, but spent the bulk of her youth in Waterloo during the year, and Knowlton during her summers.  She was big into sports, and participated in several school teams / organized sports leagues / lessons:  basketball, tennis, sailing, volleyball, softball, golf, ultimate frisbee, swimming.  She did a Bachelors of Commerce, with a minor in French studies, at Queen's University, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.  She was also fortunate to earn a place on the University's basketball team, a team she played on for four years, including two trips to the National Championship tournament.
Upon graduating from Queen's, Andrea began her career as a Management Consultant.  Although she was based in Toronto, she spent a lot of her time travelling with work, having projects in Chicago, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco, North Carolina, and France. After 4 years of consulting, she decided to pursue her MBA for 2 years.  She has remained a consultant since graduating from business school in 2009.

In addition to sports, Andrea loves travelling, good food, wine, dogs, and spending time with her family when she can (mother Susan, sister Diana, brother Rob, brother-in-law Rob, niece Taylor, grandmother Joan, and extended relatives in Vancouver, Idaho, California, Ottawa and Toronto).

Allison

Allison Jane Dick was born in Evanston, Illinois to parents Lynn and Jane Dick.  She spent most of the first 14 years of her life in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after which point her family moved to Carmel, Indiana.  Her strength as a soccer player earned her a spot playing for Tulsa and Indiana Universities.  Allison graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Business, focused on Finance.

Allison started her career as an accountant in television, then with an annuities company, and then she followed her father's footsteps and got her CPA with Ernst & Young in LA.  She spent a few years there, then she shifted gears to go work in Real Estate with a former client who sought her out.  After working for a while, she decided to pursue her MBA, after which point she continued her career focus in real estate investing.  She started her own company with a business partner in 2011.

Allison loves sports, dogs, anything competitive, and travelling.  When she has time, she enjoys visiting with her parents who live in Florida and her brother Carl, who lives in Indiana.

Our story

Allison and Andrea met while they were pursuing their MBA degrees at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.  While they had a lot of similar interests, their paths didn't fully cross until their second year in the program.  The two met on the annual ski trip in Steamboat, Colorado.  Andrea was dressed up in bright blue Moose Pyjamas from a theme party, and Allison and some of her friends had gone out for drinks at the same bar.  The two quickly hit it off, and found each other easy to talk to with good senses of humo(u)r.  Minutes turned into hours, and they were the last two in the bar. Their first date was by accident, as two other people who were supposed to meet up for cocktails backed out at the last minute.  Andrea & Allison went and grabbed some beverages at a local watering hole, and they relocated to a different venue to play pool, and with the competitive juices flowing, they continued playing games at the student housing activity room (once all the bars had closed).  They played ping pong, pool, and foosball - and time just flied.  Their paths started crossing more frequently (and more deliberately), and the two quickly realized that they shared a lot of the same interests (including an interest in each other).    Although neither one went to business school expecting to find a life partner, Kellogg ended up being more than a degree.  It was also an expensive, yet effective, dating service.

Since then, they have moved to Toronto, and then to Los Angeles.  They have travelled to many places, enjoyed great food and wine, and taken several hikes and adventures with their two Chocolate Brown labrador retrievers (Giacomo and Maverick - also known as Jack and Mini).  Their love of sports has resulted in enjoyable golf vacations, and has helped guide them to attend the Superbowl, Olympic Games, and Stanley Cup Finals.  They have worked through graduating business school during a recession, challenges of being an entrepreneur, and a torn achilles tendon.
